Blue/White Smoke (Engine At Normal Operating Temperature)

  1. Refer to EVALUATING NORMAL DIESEL EXHAUST SMOKE . If smoke is considered abnormal, verify engine is at normal operating temperature and go to step 3). If engine is not at normal operating temperature, go to next step.
  2. Remove thermostat and test for proper operation and replace as necessary. If thermostat is operating normally, replace thermostat with integral air bleed check valve and repeat step 1).
  3. Check engine oil level. If oil level is correct, go to next step. If oil level is to high, drain excess oil. If problem still exists, go to next step.
  4. Perform procedures in the CHECK FUEL RETURN PRESSURE  test. If fuel return pressure is okay, perform all test procedures under the ENGINE PERFORMANCE DIAGNOSTICS  heading. If fuel return pressure is high, repair or replace fuel return line(s) as necessary.
