Wiper/Washer Systems: Description
The 2-speed permanent magnet windshield wiper motor uses a 3-brush assembly. On Bronco and "F" series vehicles, low speed is accomplished by using low speed brush and ground brush. Wiper motor is operated at high speed by using high speed brush and ground brush.
Interval operation is controlled by a variable resistor, mounted in wiper control switch. This variable resistor works with electronic governor to control variable pause operation. The resistor controls current going to electronic governor.
Washer system consists of a control switch incorporated into wiper switch, a reservoir and motor assembly, nozzles and connecting hoses. On Bronco and "F" series, circuit breaker is located in wiper control switch on systems using rotary-type switch. On "E" series, circuit breaker is fuse panel-mounted for systems using slide control switch. Amperage ratings for rotary and slide circuit breakers are 7 and 7.5 amps, respectively.
