Circuit Test D2 - Canister Purge (CANP)

Fig 1: CANP Circuits
G108515
NOTE: Enter this test only when a Code 26 is displayed during the QUICK TEST procedure or when directed here from another CIRCUIT TEST. This test is intended to diagnose only the following: harness circuits (CANP and VPWR), ECA or CANP solenoid.
  1. Checking System Integrity  - Visually check all wiring, harnesses, connectors and components for evidence of damage, overheating, shorting or looseness. If a fault is found, repair as necessary. If no faults are found, go to next step.
  2. Checking Voltage At ECA  - Install breakout box. Leave ECA disconnected and set VOM on 20-volt scale. With KOEO, measure voltage between test pins No. 32 and 20 (ground). If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step. If not, go to step 6).
  3. Check Voltage From CANP Solenoid  - Disconnect ECA. Ensure CANP solenoid is connected. Set VOM on 20-volt scale. DO NOT  pierce wire. With KOEO, measure voltage between "W/BK" wire at CANP solenoid and ground. If voltage reading is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If not, repair "W/BK" wire between ECA and CANP solenoid.
  4. Check Voltage To CANP Solenoid  - Ensure ECA is disconnected and set VOM on 20-volt scale. With KOEO, measure voltage between "R/BK" wire at CANP solenoid and ground. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If not, replace CANP solenoid.
  5. Check Voltage From Power Relay No. 2  - Ensure power relay No. 2 is connected and set VOM on 20-volt scale. DO NOT  pierce wire to test. With KOEO, measure between "R/BK" wire at power relay No. 2 and ground. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to CIRCUIT TEST B12  , step 1). If voltage is not to specification, repair "R/BK" wire between CANP solenoid and power relay No. 2.
  6. Check CANP Circuit For Short To VPWR  - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Disconnect CANP solenoid connector. With KOEO, set VOM on 20-volt scale. Measure voltage between test pins No. 32 and 20 (ground). If voltage is greater than zero, repair short to VPWR. If voltage is zero, replace ECA.
