Injection Pump: Removal

  1. Disconnect battery negative cables from both batteries. On vans, remove engine cover. On all models, remove adapter housing cover plate.
  2. Disconnect electrical connectors from injection pump. Disconnect accelerator cable and cruise control cable (if equipped) from throttle lever. Remove air cleaner and cover air intake.
  3. Remove fast idle solenoid bracket assembly to provide access to injection pump mounting nuts. Disconnect accelerator cable and cruise control cable from throttle lever. Remove air cleaner and install Intake Manifold Cover (T83T-9424-A).
  4. Remove accelerator cable bracket (with cables attached) from intake manifold and position out of the way. On vans, remove fuel inlet and return lines from fuel filter. Remove filter bracket and filter as an assembly. Cap all openings.
  5. On all models, remove fuel line from injection pump inlet and cap fittings. Remove injection pump inlet elbow and fitting adapter. Cap inlet elbow and fitting.
  6. Remove fuel return line from injection pump, rotate out of way and cap all fittings. If injector lines are to be removed, loosen line fittings at pump before removing it from engine. Disconnect fuel lines from injectors and cap line fittings and injectors.
  7. Using Injection Pump Mounting Wrench (T86T-9000-C), remove 3 injection pump retaining nuts. On "F" Series, remove injection pump with injector lines attached. DO NOT  carry injection pump by fuel injector lines.
  8. On vans, if injection pump is to be replaced, remove injector lines from pump and cap all fittings. Injector lines must be removed in the following order: 5-6-4-8-3-1-7-2. See Figure . Remove injection pump from engine passenger compartment.
