Engine Misses
- Determine when engine miss occurs. Engine will miss when cold if one or more glow plugs are not heating. If engine misses only when cold, go to GLOW PLUG SYSTEM & DIAGNOSIS . If engine misses at normal operating temperature, go to next step.
- Loosen each injector line nut (one at a time) while engine is running. If miss is isolated to specific cylinder(s), go to next step. If miss is not isolated, go to ENGINE PERFORMANCE DIAGNOSIS in this article.
- Check injector fuel line(s) for kinks or restrictions and test injectors. See INJECTORS TEST under TESTING. If lines and injectors are okay, go to next step. If not, replace line(s) and/or clean or replace injector(s).
- Perform cylinder compression test. If engine compression is within specifications, go to ENGINE PERFORMANCE DIAGNOSIS in this article. If not, go to next step.
- Check crankcase pressure by performing step 20) of ENGINE PERFORMANCE DIAGNOSIS in this article. If okay, service or replace engine valve train. If not, overhaul power cylinder.
