Test Z - Key Power Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1984 Ford Ranger, 1984 Ford Cab & Chassis, and 1984 Ford Bronco II. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Install breakout box with ECA connected. With DVOM on 20V range, connect leads to pins 5 and 60. Perform KEY ON-ENGINE RUNNING (KOER) SELF-TEST  . If DVOM reading exceeds 17.5V during QUICK TEST, repair charging system. If reading remains below 17.5 volts and code 65 is present, replace ECA and repeat QUICK TEST  . If DVOM remains below 17.5V and code 65 is not present, go to next step.
  2. Perform KEY ON-ENGINE OFF (KOEO) SELF-TEST  . If code 65 is not present, charging system is okay, test complete. If code 65 is present, check charging system.
