Engine Performance: System: Turbocharger: Operation: Turbine

The turbine is a centripetal, radial inflow type. Exhaust gases passing through the turbine assembly causes the turbine wheel to rotate, which in turn causes the compressor wheel to rotate. Rotational speed is governed by the flow-rate of the exhaust gas. As engine speed increases, turbine speed increases, resulting in increased compressor speed and pressure.
