Steering Shaft Anti-Rattle Clip: Disassembly

  1. Remove steering column. See STEERING COLUMN  . On standard columns, remove shift cane, turn signal switch and washer/wiper switches. Remove upper steering shaft bearing and lock cylinder housing.
  2. On tilt columns, remove tilt casting. On all models, remove steering shaft assembly out the top of outer tube. Scribe a mark on upper steering shaft where upper and lower steering shaft sections form a joint line.
  3. Also scribe marks on one side of upper and lower shafts to indicate upper-to-lower shaft relationship. Separate upper and lower shaft sections. Remove and discard insulator clips.
