Engine Compression

  1. Run engine until operating temperature is reached. Remove glow plugs and disconnect fuel cut-off solenoid at injection pump.
  2. CAUTION: Disconnect the glow plug harness (Blue/Red Stripe) from engine wiring harness to prevent shorting terminal leads when ignition is turned on.
  3. Install Glow Plug Adapter (5634) into No. 1 cylinder. Connect Diesel Engine Compression Tester (19-00001) to the adapter. DO NOT add oil to cylinders. Crank engine at least 6 revolutions and take reading.
  4. CAUTION: DO NOT operate engine with fuel conditioner by-passed. Destruction of injection pump will result.
  5. Repeat test for each cylinder. If pressures are not within limits, repair components as required.
