Steering Column: Description

Steering shafts are designed to collapse upon impact. Column consists of an outer tube, internal shift tube and a steering shaft. If column collapses due to impact, column and support bracket must be replaced.

Bronco and "F" Series Pickup attach steering gear lower shaft to steering gear with a slip-joint coupling shaft. Van models have the steering shaft attached directly to steering gear.
