Alternator & Regulator: Description

Ford light trucks alternators are available with rear or side mounted terminals. See Figure and Figure . Rated outputs range from 40 to 100 amps depending upon model used. Some models are equipped with indicator lights, others with ammeters.

Current is supplied to system from rotating field of alternator through 2 brushes to 2 slip rings. Power is produced in the form of alternating current which is rectified to direct current by 6 diodes. Charging systems are equipped with a fusible link between starter relay and alternator "BAT" terminal.
