Test Q - Spark Timing Check
- Check to ensure that grounded jumper wire was connected to self-test connector during Engine Running Test. Check timing during Engine Running Test within 25 seconds of engine start-up. If base timing is 17-23°, repeat Engine Running Test. If timing is not within 17-23°, proceed to step 2).
- Locate and disconnect distributor spark output test connector. Connect a jumper wire to ground. Start engine. Connect grounded jumper wire to distributor test connector. If vehicle stalls, proceed to step 3). If vehicle does not stall, check for open in circuit 324. If no opens are found, problem is in ignition system.
- Disconnect jumper wire. Leave distributor test connector disconnected. Start engine and check base timing. If timing is within 3° of base timing (20°), proceed to step 4). If timing is off by more than 3°, correct timing as necessary.
- Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Disconnect processor and inspect both 60 pin connectors. Connect breakout box to harness. Leave processor disconnected. Measure continuity from circuit 324 to breakout box pin 36. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace processor and check timing as in step 1). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit and reconnect distributor test connector. Check timing as in step 1). If problem is still present, perform ignition system diagnosis.
