Removal And Installation
REMOVAL
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the right front halfshaft. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the front suspension crossmember. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, FRONT SUSPENSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
- Remove the auxiliary water pump fasteners (1 and 2) and position the auxiliary water pump aside.
- Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) of the PTU actuator.
- Remove the intake manifold support bracket nuts and the bracket (2).
- Remove the fasteners (1a and 1b) and remove the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) support bracket (1c).
- Remove the intake manifold bracket stud (1) shown in illustration from the intake manifold.
- Remove the fasteners (1a) and remove the PTU (1b) from the vehicle.
- Remove and DISCARD
the O-ring (1).
- If required, remove the fasteners (1a and 1b) and remove the PTU actuator.
INSTALLATION
- If removed, install the PTU actuator and tighten the fasteners securely.
- Install the PTU (1a) with a NEW
O-ring and tighten the fasteners (1b) to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the intake manifold support bracket stud (1) into the intake manifold.
- Install the PTU support bracket (1a) and fasteners (1b and 1c). Tighten the fasteners to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the intake manifold support bracket and tighten the fasteners securely.
- Connect the wire harness connector to the PTU actuator.
- Position the auxiliary water pump and install the fasteners (1 and 2), torque to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the front suspension crossmember. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, FRONT SUSPENSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the right front halfshaft. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Verify that the PTU and transmission are filled to the specified fluid level. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector to the negative battery cable.
- When installing a NEW (PTU), connect the diagnostic scan tool, enter "miscellaneous functions" of the DriveTrain Control Module (DTCM) and run the self-learning procedure for the PTU.
