Description And Operation: Description
The Radio Frequency Hub (RH-Hub) module is a primary component of several standard and optional electronic systems in the vehicle. The RF-hub is a Radio Frequency (RF) and Low Frequency (LF) receiver, contains controlling logic for a number of systems and communicates with other electronic modules and nodes in the vehicle over the Controller Area Network (CAN) data bus as well as over a private serial bus. There are several models of the RF-Hub that support the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Build Up Export (BUX) and Japan markets. Different signal supporting options include automatic transmission, manual transmission, Rotary ignition system using Ignition Module (IGNM) switch, Passive Entry Keyless Go (PEKG) system using smart door handles and the Keyless Ignition Node (KIN) and remote start.
Systems and features supported by the RFHM include:
- Ignition System
- PEKG
- Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System
- Sentry Key Immobilizer System (SKIS)
- Steering Lock Mechanism
- Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) System
Concealed and protected within the molded plastic RF-Hub housing is the microcontroller and the other electronic circuitry of the module. The RF-Hub is mounted on the steering column, and is secured with the use of a bracket over the steering column securing it in place.
Two connector receptacles integral to the RF-Hub housing are connected to the vehicle electrical system through dedicated take outs and connectors of the body wire harness.
The RF-Hub cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if damaged or ineffective, it must be replaced.
