Description And Operation: Operation: Notes
In every ignition switch position (OFF, RUN, START) the BCM, before sending the door locking/unlocking command, checks the status of the doors (open or closed) through the switches in the locks.
Status of door status switches
:
- Driver side door switch : if the door is closed the switch is open; if the door is open the switch is closed.
- Passenger side door switch : if the door is closed the switch is open; if the door is open the switch is closed.
- Rear door switches: if the doors are closed the switches (left and right) are open; if the doors are open, the switches are closed.
- Tailgate switch : if the tailgate is closed, the switch is closed; if the tailgate is open, the switch is open.
- Hood switch: if the hood is open, the switch is open; if the hood is closed, the switch is closed (the hood switch is only present if there is the alarm).
Passive Entry
:
- System without Passive Entry: The BCMs on NAFTA-version vehicles can manage door locking even if one or more doors are open. Door locking will not be carried out only if the key is in the ignition switch.
- Systems with Passive Entry: Where there is the passive entry system, the doors can be locked centrally even if one or more doors are open. When the last door is closed, the BCM will request that the RH module locates the keys: if these are outside of the car, the doors will maintain "locked" status. If, on the other hand, they are inside the vehicle, the BCM will centrally unlock the doors.
- Passive Entry Module (PEM) controls and manages all system functionality.
- Via the CAN line, PEM is connected to the Body Control Module (BCM), to the instrument panel, to manage the various warning lights, and to the other network nodes.
- A dedicated "security K line" connects the PEM to the ignition device. When the START button is pressed, a command is sent (corresponding to the ignition-controlled INT signal of a mechanical key). The PEM in turn "resends" the INT signal to the BCM.
The PEM receives various control signals:
- the control signal from clutch pedal
- the control signal from brake pedal
- the control signals from front right door handle
- the control signals from front left door handle
- the control signal from tailgate handle
- The PEM unit connects with the various RFHM "surveillance" antennas:
- connect with rear RFHM antenna
- connect with RFHM antenna on the dashboard
- connect with RFHM antenna on the rear fascia
- connect with RFHM antenna on the rear right door
- connect with RFHM antenna on the rear left door
Electric Locks : Inside the electric locks is a PTC element in series with their electric motors. The PTC elements permits thermal protection in the event that the BCM continues to supply current to the motors due to a fault. The resistance of the PTC element increases as its temperature increases, consequently interrupting the electrical circuit.

CENTRAL LOCKING
The locking/unlocking of the doors function is controlled by the BCM.
The BCM receives a direct power supply from the battery through the line protected by maxi fuse in the engine compartment junction unit.
The BCM receives an ignition-operated power supply (INT). This signal is used, amongst other things, to "wake up the network".
The BCM receives the following inputs:
- the lock/release signals from the antenna-receiver of the remote control.
- the lock/release signals from the pawl and/or paddle located in the driver's lock.
- the negative signal from the locking/unlocking buttons, located in the control panel on the doors.
According to the control logic illustrated, the BCM controls the two geared motors for the locks via the line supplied by a fuse in the BCM.
The deterrent and door status signalling LED, located in the dashboard, is lit by a signal from the BCM.
The BCM is connected via the CAN line to instrument panel, to which it sends a signal that switches on the "door open" warning light, where necessary, and activates the buzzer to give an acoustic signal.
