Removal And Installation: Removal

  1. Remove the cylinder head. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Remove the oil pan and oil pump pick-up. Refer to PICK-UP, OIL PUMP, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  3. Rotate the crankshaft to bring the piston rod No. 1 to the position shown in the figure, remove and discard the bolts (1a) and remove the connecting rod cap (1b).
  4. Remove the upper bearing shell (2).

  5. Install the (special tool #10281, Pins, Connecting Rod Guide) on the connecting rod.
    CAUTION:

    Care must be taken not to nick crankshaft journals, as engine damage may occur.

  6. With suitable tool, push up on the connecting rod (1).

  7. Remove the piston and connecting rod (1).
