Module, Instrument Panel Cluster: Installation
To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.
- Be certain that the steering column remains in the lowest position setting.
- Position the instrument cluster close enough to the instrument panel to access and reconnect the instrument panel wire harness connector to the receptacle on the back of the cluster housing.
- Position the bottom of the instrument cluster into the instrument panel, then tilt the top forward into place.
- Install and tighten the four screws that secure the instrument cluster to the instrument panel.
- Install the instrument cluster bezel (1) onto the instrument panel. Refer to BEZEL, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, INSTALLATION .
- Connect the negative cable to the battery.NOTE:
If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to align the PROXI Configuration data into the new ECU. Follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under Miscellaneous Functions for the ECU menu item.
Refer to MODULE, INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER, MODULE PROGRAMMING .
