Module, Anti-Lock Brake System: Removal
- Disconnect and isolate battery negative cable from battery post.
- Remove the battery tray. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL .
- Using a brake pedal holding tool as shown, depress the brake pedal past its first 25 mm (1 inch) of travel and hold it in this position. This will isolate the master cylinder from the brake hydraulic system and will not allow the brake fluid to drain out of the master cylinder reservoir while the lines are disconnected.
- Remove the engine appearance cover.
- Pull the brake tube bundle routing clips (with tubes) loose from studs on the dash panel.
- Disconnect the ABM harness connector (1) from the Antilock Brake Module (ABM). To do so:
- Lift the connector cover (5) until it locks into position straight up and down.
- The connector can then be pulled straight out and off the ABM.
- Remove brake tubes (2, 4) from the ICU, including two fittings (4) from the master cylinder.
- Remove the three mounting fasteners (3) attaching the ICU mounting bracket to the body.
- Pull the ICU up from the body to separate mounting pin from the body.
- Move the brake tubes around as necessary without bending them and remove the ICU with bracket through the opening between the dash panel and engine.
- To separate the ABM from the HCU, refer to INTEGRATED CONTROL UNIT (ICU), DISASSEMBLY .
