Description And Operation
DESCRIPTION
The following are some of the components that make up the power window system:
- Electric window regulator
- Door latch and lock actuator (left)
- Electric window main switch
- Electric window sub-switch
- Electric window control module
- Top lock striker
- Top lock striker
- Top lock switch
- Convertible top switch
- Door latch and lock actuator (right)
- Electric window motor
For the electric window system, the new "Door open/close interlock function" and "Convertible top open interlock function" functions have been adopted. Due to the adoption of the above functions, the automatic open/close function has also been adopted for the electric window sub-switch on the passenger side. In addition, because the fully-closed position information is recorded by the electric window control module (electric window main switch and electric window sub-switch) using non-volatile memory (EEPROM), the electric window initial setting is not required even if the battery or a power source-related fuse is removed. Used for functions such as the auto function and auto reverse pinch protection function.
OPERATION
The power window system allows each of the door windows to be raised and lowered electrically by actuating a switch on each door panel. A master switch on the drivers door allows the driver to raise or lower each door window. The power window system operates only when the ignition switch is in the RUN or ACCESSORY position.
| Functions | Description |
|---|---|
| Manual open/manual close | The door windows operate in manual mode when the electric window main switch or sub-switch are set for manual operation. |
| Auto open/auto close | The door windows operate in automatic mode when the electric window main switch or sub-switch is set for automatic operation, Auto operation is possible using passenger side switch. |
| Ignition switch OFF timer | The door windows can be opened/closed using the electric window main switch for approx. 40 s after ignition is switched from ON to ACC or OFF. |
| Fully closed position record | The electric window control module stores the door window fully closed position. Since the fully closed position information is stored in non-volatile memory (EEPROM), the fully closed position will not be reset even if the battery is removed or there is a loss of power. |
| Interlock door open/close | The door window moves up/down in conjunction with opening/closing of driver/passenger side door. |
| Convertible top open interlock | If the convertible top is opened/closed with the door window closed, the door window opens automatically. |
If the power window fully-closed position learning value recorded by the power window control module is initialized or the learning is not completed, the power window automatic operation is disabled, as are the "Door open/close interlock function" and "Convertible top open interlock function". After performing the following services, always perform the power window initialization. Refer to ELECTRIC WINDOW SYSTEM INITIALIZATION .
- Power window main switch or power window sub-switch is replaced
- The power window connector is disconnected while the window is being operated (e.g. motor circuit)
- Interventions that could cause a difference between the window position stored in the EEPROM and its effective position (removal of the window, the regulator or the electric window motor)
DOOR INTERLOCK FUNCTION
The vehicle is equipped with a door open/close interlock function, which secures the door window using weatherstrips and link weatherstrips, it makes it possible to prevent the condition in which the door window is pulled by the vacuum from outside the vehicle during high-speed driving producing a gap between the weatherstrip and the door window. For this system to work, the window is slightly opened/closed when the door is opened/closed.
When all of the following conditions are met, the door open/close interlock is operated:
- The door window is positioned less than 6.5 mm away from the fully-closed position
- ON signal is received from door latch switch
- The recording of the door window in the fully-closed position is completed
When the driver or passenger door is opened, the door latch sends a switch ON signal to the power window control module. When the power window control module receives the switch ON signal from the door latch, the power window control module activates the open window relay requesting the window to open. The window is opened to 6.5 mm from the fully-closed position by the power window control module. When the open/close door interlock is operated with the door latch switch OFF signal is sent, the power window is operated to the fully closed position. If the window is opened with the open/closed interlock active, and the door latch switch ON signal is received, the power window cannot be closed to the fully-closed position it cannot move to more then 6.5 mm from the fully closed position. Once the door is closed the window will return to the fully-closed position.
CONVERTIBLE TOP INTERLOCK FUNCTION
The vehicle is equipped with a convertible top interlock function, which will automatically open the power windows if they are close with the opening/closing of the convertible top. The top lock switch is integrated into the top lock striker, which is used for detecting when the convertible top is opening, and the convertible top switch located on left side link support of the convertible top, which is used for detecting when the convertible top is closing
When all of the following conditions are met, the convertible top open/close interlock operates:
- The door window is in a position less than 140 mm from the fully-closed position.
- The convertible top open signal is received from the top lock switch or the convertible top close signal is received from the convertible top switch.
- The recording of the door window in the fully-closed position is completed Convertible top opening.
Opening - When the convertible top is released from the top lock, the top lock switch sends a convertible top open signal to the power winder control module. When the power window control module receives the convertible top open signal from the top lock switch, it sends the request to the open relay to open the windows, the request is received and the window is opened until the power window control module detects that the window has been lowered by 140 mm from the fully-closed position.
Closing - When the convertible top is closing, the convertible top switch sends a convertible top close signal to the power window control module. The power window control module receives the convertible top close signal from the convertible top switch, and it sends the request to the open relay to open the windows, the request is received and the window is opened until the power window control module detects that the window has been lowered by 140 mm from the fully-closed position.
