Draining And Filling The Cooling System
DRAINING
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, CENTER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, SIDE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the RH wheelhouse splash shields. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.NOTE:
Do not remove the tank cap when the engine is warm as there is a risk of scalding.
- With the engine cold, open the engine cooling supply tank plug and the reserve tank plug.
- Open the radiator drain valve (1) and drain the coolant in a suitable container.
FILLING
- Close the radiator coolant drain valve and remove the pipe previously positioned.
- Fill the engine cooling system with the appropriate amount of coolant/distilled water very slowly via the filler on the tank until it comes out of the bleed valves. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
- Start and run the engine with the heater control unit in the HEAT position.
- After the engine has reached normal operating temperature, shut the engine off and allow it to cool. When the engine is cooling down, coolant will be drawn into the radiator.NOTE:
Only add coolant to the container when the engine is cold. Coolant level in a warm engine will be higher due to thermal expansion.
- Add necessary coolant to raise container level to the COLD MINIMUM mark after each cool down period as necessary.
- Once the appropriate coolant level is achieved, install the cap on the filler neck.
- Install the wheelhouse splash shields. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, CENTER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, SIDE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
