- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

- CHECK THE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Courtesy of CHRYSLER GROUP, LLC
- Turn the ignition off to the lock position.
- Disconnect TCM harness connector and remove the TCM from the Transmission.
- Measure the resistance of the internal Output Speed sensor between ground the appropriate terminal of the TCM transmission connector.
Is the resistance above 100k Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Remove the Transmission Side cover and inspect the internal harness for high resistance or intermittent short to ground. Refer to VALVE BODY, REMOVAL . If no short is found, replace the Transmission Temperature sensor.
- Perform the AW60T VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to AW60T TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR
TEMPERATURE VS RESISTANCE TABLE TEMPERATURE APPROXIMATE OHM -30°C (-22°F) 44000 Ohms ± 6600 10°C (50°F) 6453.0 Ohms ± 645 110°C (230°F) 247 Ohms ± 16 145°C (293°F) 111 Ohms ± 6 - Measure the resistance of the Transmission Temperature Sensor between the Transmission Temperature Signal circuit and the Transmission Temperature Sensor Ground circuit in the appropriate terminals of the TCM transmission connector.
- Using the table above, compare the Temperature Sensor temperature to the correlating resistance value.
Is the resistance within the specified range when the sensor is at the given temperature?
Yes
- Using the schematics as a guide, check the Transmission Control Module (TCM) connector and all related in-line connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or pushed out terminals. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace and program the TCM in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL, REMOVAL .
- Perform the AW60T VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to AW60T TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Remove the Transmission Side cover and inspect the internal harness for high resistance or intermittent short to ground. Refer to VALVE BODY, REMOVAL . If no trouble is found, replace the Transmission Temperature sensor.
- Perform the AW60T VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to AW60T TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK WIRING AND CONNECTORS
- The conditions necessary to set the DTC are not present at this time.
- Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this circuit.
- Wiggle the wires while checking for shorted and open circuits.
- Check for any Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the AW60T VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to AW60T TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Test complete.
