Test 22D: Traction Control Switch

NOTE: Perform TEST 22A: TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM OPERATION  before proceeding. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  1. Using scan tool, exit ABS diagnostics. Turn ignition off, then on. Observe Amber TRAC OFF light on message center at center of instrument panel while depressing traction control switch. If Amber TRAC OFF light is on, go to next step. If Amber TRAC OFF light is not on, go to step 5).
  2. Depress traction control switch again. If Amber TRAC OFF light is off, traction control switch is operating properly. If Amber TRAC OFF light remains on, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect traction control switch connector. If Amber TRAC OFF light remains on, go to next step. If Amber TRAC OFF light is off, replace traction control switch. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST  .
  4. Using scan tool, enter ABS diagnostics and read traction control switch status. If scan tool does not display PRESSED, replace CAB. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST  . If scan tool displays PRESSED, repair short to ground in Red/Yellow wire between traction control switch and CAB terminal No. 9. Perform TEST VER-1A.
  5. Disconnect traction control switch connector. Inspect connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST  . If connector and terminals are okay, go to next step.
  6. Using scan tool, select TEVES ABS and read traction control switch status. Connect jumper wire between traction control switch connector terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire). If scan tool does not display PRESSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays PRESSED, replace traction control switch. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST  .
  7. Remove jumper wire from traction control switch connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire). Reconnect jumper wire between a good ground and traction control switch connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire). If scan tool does not display PRESSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays PRESSED, repair open Black wire to traction control switch. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST  .
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CAB connector. Inspect CAB connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST  . If connector and terminals are okay, go to next step.
  9. Inspect CAB connector terminal No. 9 (Red/Yellow wire) for pushed-out, damaged or miswired terminal. Repair terminal as necessary and perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST  . If terminal is okay, go to next step.
  10. Ensure jumper wire is still connected between a good ground and traction control switch connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire). Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of CAB connector terminal No. 9 (Red/Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace CAB. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST  . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Red/Yellow wire between traction control switch and CAB. Perform TEST VER-1A.
