Description & Operation

A rotary valve in pinion assembly directs fluid to either side of integral rack piston. Tie rods connect rack and pinion to steering knuckles. Steering wheel movement is transmitted by steering shaft, mounted in steering column, to pinion through 2 universal joint couplings. Rack and pinion assembly converts rotational movement of pinion to transverse movement of rack.
