Section 61 (Clutches): Description
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Plymouth Neon, 1997 Dodge Neon, 1996 Plymouth Neon, and 1996 Dodge Neon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Clutch uses a single plate, dry disc with a self-adjusting cable release mechanism. A preload spring maintains tension on the cable, keeping the clutch release bearing continuously applied to the clutch cover assembly fingers.
A clutch pedal position switch is used to prevent engine cranking with the clutch engaged. Clutch pedal position switch is wired in series between starter relay and ignition switch.
Check 11th character of VIN. Vehicles with a "D" designation use modular clutch assembly. Vehicles with a "T" designation use conventional clutch disc assembly.
