Test 83A - Outside Temperature Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Eagle Vision, 1995 Dodge Intrepid, 1995 Chrysler New Yorker, 1995 Chrysler LHS, and 1995 Chrysler Concorde. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Perform TEST 1B or 3A before proceeding with this test. Ensure OTIS is operating properly. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. After any repair for a temperature problem, drive vehicle to update OTIS display.
  1. Using DRB, read outside temperature. If DRB displays 183°F, go to next step. If DRB does not display 183°F, go to step 4).
  2. Locate ambient temperature sensor behind front bumper, left of center. Disconnect ambient temperature sensor connector. Ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Turn ignition off and then back on. Using DRB, read outside temperature. If DRB temperature display does not drop to -70°F, go to next step. If DRB temperature display drops to -70°F, replace ambient temperature sensor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM Gray connector, located above right kick panel. Ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using DRB ohmmeter, probe BCM Gray connector terminal No. 10 (Violet/Light Green wire). If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet/Light Green wire. If resistance is greater than 100 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. Disconnect ambient temperature sensor connector located behind front bumper, left of center. Ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using DRB, read outside temperature. If DRB does not display -70°F, go to TEST 84A. If DRB displays -70°F, go to next step.
  5. Connect jumper wire between ambient temperature sensor connector terminals. Using DRB, read outside temperature. If DRB does not display 183°F, go to next step. If DRB displays 183°F, replace sensor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST .
  6. Connect jumper wire between ambient temperature sensor connector terminal No. 2 (Violet/Light Green wire) and ground. Turn ignition off, then on. Using DRB, read outside temperature. If DRB does not display 183°F, go to next step. If DRB displays 183°F, go to step 8).
  7. Leave jumper wire connected and turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM Gray connector. Ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using DRB ohmmeter, probe BCM Gray connector terminal No. 10 (Violet/Light Green wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Violet/Light Green wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST .
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM Bone connector. Ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Connect jumper wire between ambient temperature sensor connector terminal No. 1 (Gray/Tan wire) and ground. Using DRB ohmmeter, probe BCM Bone connector terminal No. 15 (Gray/Tan wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open Gray/Tan wire between BCM Bone connector terminal No. 15 and ambient temperature sensor connector. Perform VERIFICATION TEST . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION TEST .
