Cruise Control Systems: Testing: Self-Diagnostics
NOTE:
Problem represented by Code No. 17 will not cancel cruise control system.
- Self-diagnostics should be performed when cruise control cancels without the driver using normal cancel modes. Data Link Connector (DLC) is located on right side of fuse box.
- Use analog voltmeter or Scan Tester (MB991341) for code retrieval. Connect leads of scan tester or analog voltmeter to diagnostic connector. See Fig 1 .
- When using a scan tester, turn ignition switch to OFF position before connecting or disconnecting tester. Turn ignition on. Select self-diagnostic mode according to scan tester instructions. Read trouble codes. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC CODES to find appropriate circuit test.
- When using voltmeter, turn ignition and main cruise control switches to ON position. Using Special Tool (MB992529), connect voltmeter positive lead to DLC terminal No. 6 and negative lead to terminal No. 4 or No. 5. Read voltmeter needle sweeps to determine trouble code. Once trouble codes have been displayed, refer to SELF-DIAGNOSTIC CODES to find appropriate circuit test.
- To clear trouble codes, either disconnect battery cable or turn ignition on. Turn main cruise control switch and set switch to ON position. Within one second, turn resume switch to ON position.
- Depress brake pedal and hold cruise control switch in ON position for more than 5 seconds. Verify codes are cleared.
