Anti-Lock Warning Light Operation
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. ANTI-LOCK warning light should glow approximately one second, blink twice (4 times on AWD) and then go out. Turn ignition switch to START position. Warning light should glow.
- When ignition switch is turned from START to ON position, warning light should glow for approximately one second, blink twice (4 times on AWD) and then go out.
- If warning light functions as specified, go to next step. If warning light does not function as specified, perform one of the following tests under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- ANTI-LOCK WARNING LIGHT INOPERATIVE
- IGNITION IN ON POSITION, WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ON
- IGNITION IN START POSITION, WARNING LIGHT INOPERATIVE
- IGNITION IN ON POSITION, WARNING LIGHT BLINKS ONCE; IN START POSITION WARNING LIGHT GLOWS; WHEN IGNITION IS SWITCHED FROM START TO ON, WARNING LIGHT BLINKS ONCE AGAIN
- If warning light does not glow as vehicle begins to be driven, go to next step. If warning light glows as vehicle begins to be driven, a malfunction exists in motor relay, solenoid valve or Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS). Go to step 8).
- If one-sided braking or insufficient braking force exists or if wheels easily lock under sudden braking, go to next step. If ABS sometimes functions even without sudden braking, go to step 7). If none of above symptoms exist, go to step 9).
- Check for mechanical lock of hydraulic unit solenoid valve. Check for plugged hydraulic line in hydraulic unit. Check hydraulic unit operation, and repair or replace as necessary. If hydraulic unit is okay, check conventional brake system components for proper operation.
- If not done previously, check for plugged hydraulic line in hydraulic unit. Repair or replace components as necessary.
- Ensure WSS rotor gap is correct. See WHEEL SPEED SENSOR under ADJUSTMENTS. Check for faulty WSS. See WHEEL SPEED SENSOR under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. Replace sensor as necessary. See WHEEL SPEED SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect ECM wiring. If testing indicates no mechanical or electrical failures, replace ECM.
- Enter ABS self-diagnostics, and retrieve codes. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If no codes are displayed, fault may be intermittent. Try to make malfunction reoccur. If diagnostic output does not exist, check for faulty wiring harness between ECM and data link connector. Repair or replace wiring as necessary.
