The ignition switch must be off before the trunk lid can be unlocked with the transmitter. The receiver may receive signals from 2 transmitters. The transmitter will operate within 23-30 feet of the vehicle. No more than 2 transmitters can be used. The receiver is capable of retaining memory even when power is removed. The transmitter has two 3-volt batteries which can be replaced. Battery life is about 2 years.

The transmitter has 3 buttons for operation; LOCK, UNLOCK and TRUNK release. The UNLOCK button will unlock the driver's door and light the illuminated entry system. On models with theft alarm system it will also activate theft security system. Pushing and releasing the button once will unlock the driver door. Pushing the button twice within 5 seconds will unlock all doors.

The LOCK button will lock all doors and activate theft security system (if equipped). When pressed, horn will sound a short chirp to signify that the signal was received and doors are locked. The TRUNK button will slightly open the trunk lid when pressed.
