Test 1A - Testing System Function

  1. Connect DRB to data link connector. See Fig 1 . If DRB displays SELECT SYSTEM, go to next step. If DRB screen is blank or does not display SELECT SYSTEM, see VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS in the appropriate article:
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRB, select BODY. If DRB does not display CCD BUS FAILURE, go to next step. If DRB displays CCD BUS FAILURE, see VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS in the appropriate article:
  3. If DRB displays NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 2A. If DRB does not display NO RESPONSE, use DRB to read BODY CONTROL MODULE CODES. If DRB does not display BATTERY POWER TO MODULE DISCONNECT, go to next step. If DRB displays BATTERY POWER TO MODULE DISCONNECT, see VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS in the appropriate article:
  4. Using DRB, select Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) module. If DRB displays NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 2A  . If DRB does not display NO RESPONSE, use DRB to change VTSS status to Diagnostics. If DRB does not display TURN IGNITION KEY TO OFF, go to TEST 3A  . If DRB displays TURN IGNITION KEY TO OFF, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 4A  . If horn sounds and VTSS indicator lamp does not flash, go to TEST 5A  . If Indicator lamp flashes and park lamps do not flash, go to TEST 6A  . If park lamps flash, remove key from ignition switch. Go to next step.
    NOTE: Wait 30 seconds between opening and closing doors in following steps.
  6. Open and close right front door. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 8A  . If horn sounds, open and close right rear door. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 9A. If horn sounds, open and close left rear door. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 10A. If horn sounds, go to next step.
  7. Depress power door lock switch to LOCK position. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 11A  . If horn sounds, depress power door lock switch to UNLOCK position. If horn does not sound, proceed to TEST 12A  . If horn sounds, go to next step.
  8. Rotate key in left front door to UNLOCK position. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 13A  . If horn sounds, rotate key in right front door to UNLOCK position. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 14A  . If horn sounds, turn ignition switch to ON position. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 3A  . If horn sounds, go to next step.
  9. Using DRB, read VTSS status. If DRB does not display CURRENT MODE DISARMED, go to TEST 1B  . If DRB displays CURRENT MODE DISARMED, check if DRB displays engine controller 1) NO RESPONSE, 2) NO RESPONSE. If DRB displays 1) NO RESPONSE, 2) NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 15A  . If DRB does not display 1) NO RESPONSE, 2) NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  10. If DRB does not display engine controller 1) OK TO ARM VTSS, 2) OK TO RUN ENG, replace powertrain control module. If DRB displays engine controller 1) OK TO ARM VTSS, 2) OK TO RUN ENG, go to next step.
  11. If problem exists in keyless entry arm or disarm function, go to TEST 16A  . If problem does not exist in keyless entry arm or disarm function, go to next step.
  12. If engine controller has not been replaced within last 20 key cycles, system is okay at this time. If engine controller has been replaced within last 20 key cycles, 20 engine starts must be reached before VTSS becomes operational.
