Current Output Test
NOTE:
Battery must be fully charged and have passed a Load Test in good condition before proceeding with current output test.
- Using S-VAT-40 Tester, clamp ammeter probe over positive battery cable with probe's arrow pointing toward battery positive post. Ensure tester carbon pile rheostat is in the OFF position. Set tester selector knob to EXT 0-18 VDC. Connect voltmeter leads to battery posts. Adjust amps reading to zero.
- Ensure transmission is in Park position. Start engine and allow to warm up for 15 minutes. Ensure a minimum charging rate of 13 volts before continuing output testing. Adjust engine RPM according to specification. See ALTERNATOR SPECIFICATIONS table.
- Turn carbon pile to match alternator output. Battery voltage should not drop below 13 volts. If alternator output is not to specification, replace alternator.
