Ignition Coil (2.0L & 2.0L Turbo)

  1. Disconnect ignition coil connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure primary coil resistance between ignition coil terminals No. 3 and 2. See Fig 1 , TEST 1. Also, measure resistance between ignition coil connector terminals No. 3 and 1. Primary resistance should be .77-.95 ohms at 68°F (20°C).
  2. With ignition coil connector still disconnected, measure secondary coil resistance. Measure resistance between high-voltage terminals for cylinders No. 1 and 4, and between high-voltage terminals for cylinders No. 2 and 3. See Fig 1 , TEST 2.
  3. Secondary resistance should be 10,300-13,900 ohms. Replace ignition coil if it does not test as described.

NOTE: To test power transistors, use an analog ohmmeter.
