Steering Column: Inspection
Steering shaft, steering column jacket and steering column bracket are all equipped with break-away type shear pins. The components and shear pins must be inspected if the vehicle is involved in a collision resulting in extreme body damage.
CAUTION:
Steering shaft, column jacket and bracket are designed to collapse under impact. This is a safety feature built into steering column. DO NOT
attempt to repair or reuse a damaged or collapsed steering shaft, jacket or bracket. Damaged components must be replaced.
