EGR System Inspection (Federal Models)
- Disconnect Green-striped vacuum hose from EGR valve at throttle body. Plug fitting at throttle body from which vacuum hose was connected. Connect a hand held vacuum pump to Green-striped vacuum hose.
- With engine cold and coolant temperature less than 104°F (40°C), start engine and let idle. Using hand held vacuum pump, try applying vacuum. Vacuum should not hold.
- Run engine until coolant temperature is greater than 176°F (80°C). With engine idling, apply 2 in. Hg vacuum. Check that vacuum holds.
- Apply 8.5 in. Hg vacuum. If idle becomes unstable, engine stalls and vacuum holds, system is okay. If EGR system does not function as described, perform individual component testing.
