Trouble Shooting
NOTE:
If cooling fan does not operate with A/C on and A/C compressor engaged, repair open circuit between Tan wire at cooling fan relay and A/C clutch relay. Relays are located in left front corner of engine compartment in relay holder, below the ignition module. See Fig 1
.
- If cooling fan is inoperative, disconnect electrical connector at coolant temperature switch, located in thermostat housing.
- Install jumper wire between terminals of coolant temperature switch electrical connector. Turn ignition on. If cooling fan operates, replace coolant temperature switch.
- If cooling fan does not operate, turn ignition on and install jumper wire between coolant temperature switch electrical connector. Check for voltage at Tan wire of cooling fan relay. Relay is located in left front corner of engine compartment in relay holder, below the ignition module. See Fig 1 .
- If no voltage exists, check for open in harness between ignition switch, cooling fan diode assembly (taped in wiring harness near left fender panel) and Tan wire terminal at cooling fan relay. If voltage did exist, check for battery voltage at Red wire on cooling fan relay.
- If voltage does not exist, repair open in fusible link on Red wire to cooling fan relay. Fusible link is located below relays in left front corner of engine compartment. See Fig 1 . If voltage did exist, use an ohmmeter to check continuity between cooling fan relay Black wire and ground. If no continuity exists, repair open in ground circuit.
- With jumper wire installed on coolant temperature switch harness connector terminals and ignition on, check for battery voltage at Light Green wire at cooling fan relay. If voltage does not exist, replace cooling fan relay. If voltage exists and cooling fan is still inoperative, check electrical connection at fan. If electrical connections are okay, replace cooling fan assembly.
