Current Output Test

NOTE: Battery must be fully charged and in good condition before proceeding with current output test.
  1. Connect ammeter in series with positive battery cable. Connect positive voltmeter lead to positive battery post and negative lead to negative battery post. Connect carbon pile rheostat to battery. Ensure carbon pile rheostat is in the OFF position before connecting to battery.
  2. Start engine and allow 15 minutes for warm-up. Ensure a minimum charging rate of 13 volts before testing output. Adjust engine RPM according to specification. See ALTERNATOR SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  3. Turn carbon pile to match alternator output. Battery voltage should not drop below 13 volts. If alternator output is not to specification, replace alternator.
