1.6L Only

  1. Ensure engine is at operating temperature and all accessories are off. Place transmission in Neutral and front wheels in a straight-ahead position. Turn engine off.
  2. Ground ignition timing adjustment connector. Refer to IGNITION TIMING ADJUSTMENT CONNECTOR LOCATION table earlier in this article. Using a jumper wire, ground terminal No. 10 of self-diagnostic connector. Connector is located under left side of instrument panel on side of fuse box. Start engine.
  3. Check basic idle speed. Refer to IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS table. If basic idle speed is not to specification, check throttle valve for dirt accumulation before adjusting basic idle speed.
  4. If throttle valve is clean, check idle switch for proper adjustment. Refer to IDLE SWITCH adjustment procedure in this article. If idle switch is okay, check fast idle air valve for malfunction. If idle switch and fast idle air valve are okay, adjust basic idle by turning air by-pass screw located on throttle valve assembly.
