Shift Cable
- Ensure that shift cable is securely connected to column shift arm before proceeding with adjustment. Shift gear selector lever into the "P" position. Raise and support vehicle.
- Release shift cable adjuster lock tab by prying it outward with a screwdriver. See Fig 1. Move transaxle lever all the way rearward into the "P" position and ensure that it is centered in the detent.
- Verify that cable is properly routed and secured. Check that wheels do not turn when in the Park position. Pull shift cable rearward until a distance of .300" (7.62 mm) is reached; then press cable adjuster tab inward until it snaps into place. See Fig 2.
- Lower vehicle and check that shift cable is properly adjusted. Engine should only start in the "P" and "N" positions. Repeat procedure if readjustment is necessary. Move shift cable (in either direction) in .040" (1 mm) increments until properly adjusted.
