Shift Cable

  1. Shift transaxle into Park. Raise and support vehicle. Unlock shift cable by releasing clamp with screwdriver. See Fig 1. Move clamp outward to release it.
  2. Ensure transaxle shift lever is in Park position and centered in Park detent (last rearward position). Lock shift cable by pressing adjuster clamp into position. Lower vehicle.
  3. Turn ignition key to "LOCK" position. Shift lever should not be able to be moved out of Park. Turn ignition key to "ON." Engine should only start in Park and Neutral positions.
  4. If engine starts in any other gear position, shift cable is out of adjustment or neutral safety switch is defective. Shift transaxle into Park. Ensure ignition key may return to "LOCK" position.
