Pump, Water: Installation

The water pump on 3.6L engines is bolted directly to the engine timing chain case cover.

1. Clean the gasket mating surfaces.
2. Using a NEW  seal, position water pump (1) and install water pump bolts. Note the shorter bolts (2) bolt directly to the timing cover. Tighten the M6 water pump bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
3. Spin water pump to be sure that pump impeller does not rub against timing chain case/cover.
4. Install the upper idler pulley (4) and tighten the upper idler pulley bolt to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
5. Install the right side engine mount. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, REAR, INSTALLATION .
6. Remove the jack supporting the engine.
   CAUTION:

   When installing the serpentine accessory drive belt, belt must be routed correctly. If not, engine may overheat due to water pump rotating in wrong direction.

7. Connect the lower radiator hose and bypass hose.
8. Install the serpentine belt. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, INSTALLATION .
9. Install the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION .
10. Install the air cleaner resonator assembly. Refer to RESONATOR, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION .
11. Evacuate air and refill cooling system. Refer to COOLANT SYSTEM AIR EVACUATION  .
12. Check the cooling system for leaks. Refer to LEAK TESTING  .
