Standard Starting System

Starting System Flow

• Pressing the Keyless Ignition Node (KIN), a request is sent to the Radio Frequency Hub (RF-Hub) via the private Local Interface Network (LIN) bus.
• The RF-Hub receives the request from the KIN and then looks for the valid key via the Low Frequency (LF) antennas.
• If the RF-Hub detects a valid key and if the brake is engaged, the RF-Hub sends a Controller Area Network (CAN) request to the Body Control Module (BCM) to change the ignition position to START/CRANK.
• Then the BCM sends the command the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to begin engine CRANK.
• If conditions are correct to start, the PCM turns on the high side of the PCM starter relay and turns the CAN bus message "Crank Hold Signal" to True. If the BCM is still in crank and the "Crank Hold" is True then the BCM turns on the Low side of the BCM starter relay and the engine will begin cranking.
• Once the engine is started the PCM deactivates the double start over ride.
• The BCM will then deactivate the starter either when the engine starts or a maximum time of 10 seconds CRANK time has been reached.
• The RF-Hub changes the ignition position to RUN unless the PCM indicates that the vehicle is not in either P  ark gear or N  eutral gear.
• The engine can be manually shut down by the vehicle operator by pressing and holding the KIN button for five seconds with speeds over 8 km/h (5 mph) in any gear.
