Description And Operation
DESCRIPTION
The Trailer Tow Module (TTM) (2) is located behind driver side rear trim panel storage pocket. The TTM has a single wire harness connector (1) which connects the TTM to the vehicles electrical system.
OPERATION
The TTM controls the electrical brakes of a trailer in order to reduce the braking distance and a better dynamic behavior of the vehicle trailer system.
The TTM outputs:
- Power to the trailer brake system.
- Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) display requests.
- Trailer brake control output signal to the trailer based on the brake pressure in the master cylinder and also based on the type of trailer and gain input from the user.
- Trailer connection status and information signal.
- Chime requests.
The TTM monitors the Controller Area Network-Interior High Speed (CAN-IHS) bus network for lighting requests from the Body Control Module (BCM) and other inputs. The TTM itself is responsible for its own logic, actuation and sensing.
Some of the CAN-IHS inputs received by the TTM include the following:
- B+ power supply from the Power Distribution Center (PDC).
- RUN/START relay output from the PDC.
- Electric brake feed.
- Brake signal from the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) module.
- Turn and hazard lights OFF and ON requests.
- Parking lights
The TTM makes certain that these lighting functions are maintained synchronous with the vehicles lighting requests as read on the CAN-IHS bus. The TTM then sends the appropriate output OFF or ON signal to the respective trailer lights. The TTM also sends an output signal failure to the IPC indicating if the light operation has failed. The IPC will then display the appropriate indiction.
