Axle Assembly, Rear: Installation

  1. Center the axle beam on a transmission jack or equivalent standing at axle removal height.

  2. Raise the jack as necessary, aligning the axle to the leaf springs (4).
  3. Install the spring plates (1) and U-bolts (5).
  4. Install the washers (3) and nuts (2). Tighten the nuts to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  5. On each side of the vehicle, install the lower shock (1), bolt and nut (2). Do not tighten at this time.

  6. Install the lower stabilizer links (2) and nuts (3). Tighten the nuts to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  7. Engage the wheel speed sensor wire harnesses to the retainers.
  8. Install the rear wheel speed sensors (1) and bolts (2). Tighten the bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to proper service information .

  9. Install the disc brake calipers and adapter brackets (3).
  10. Install the two bolts securing the disc brake calipers and adapter brackets (3) to the axle. Tighten the bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to proper service information .

  11. Install the parking brake cables to the parking brake shoe assemblies.
  12. Install the rear parking brake cables (1) to the retainers (2).
  13. Remove the jack from under the axle.
  14. On each side of the vehicle, install the tire and wheel assembly Install and tighten the wheel mounting lug bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to INSTALLATION or WHEELS, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  15. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  16. Pump the brake pedal several times to make sure the vehicle has a firm brake pedal before moving the vehicle.
  17. Position the vehicle on an alignment rack/drive-on lift. Raise the lift as necessary to access the rear suspension while keeping vehicle at curb (riding) height.

  18. Tighten the shock absorber lower mounting bolts and nuts (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
