The camshaft position sensor (1) is mounted to the upper timing cover. The hall effect sensor generates a signal that corresponds to the camshaft position of rotation. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses the camshaft position sensor signal to detect the TDC position of cylinder No. 1. The PCM controls injection timing and the duration of time each injector delivers fuel during an injection cycle based on the camshaft signal and the crankshaft signals.
