Shaft, Intermediate: Installation
- Match intermediate shaft extension (2) to steering gear shaft (3), then slide extension onto shaft.
- Install pinch bolt (1) securing intermediate shaft extension (2) to steering gear shaft (3). Tighten pinch bolt to 42 N.m (31 ft. lbs.).
- Lower vehicle.
- Place shaft seal and cover (2) over mounting studs on floor pan and securely install fasteners. Make sure cover extends down over top of steering gear housing.
- Verify the front wheels of vehicle are in the STRAIGHT-AHEAD position.
- Collapse the intermediate shaft (2). Center it over the shaft extension (3), lining up the ends, then slide the intermediate shaft onto the shaft extension.
- Install the intermediate shaft coupling bolt (1). Tighten the bolt to 42 N.m (31 ft. lbs.).
- Reposition the floor carpet in place.
- Remove steering wheel holder.
- Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of steering.
