Steering System: Pump: Removal

NOTE:

Review all Warnings and Cautions. Refer to WARNING .

CAUTION:

When the power steering system is open, cap all open ends of the hoses, power steering pump fittings or power steering gear ports to prevent entry of foreign material into the components.

  1. Disconnect negative (-) cable from battery and isolate cable.
  2. Remove air cleaner housing. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL .
  3. Siphon power steering fluid from fluid reservoir.
  4. Remove accessory drive belt from belt tensioner and power steering pump drive pulley. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL .

    NOTE:

    The pressure hose quick-connect is a one-time use component and must be replaced anytime the pressure hose is disconnected at the power steering pump. It cannot be removed from the pressure hose once installed.

  5. Remove the entire power steering pressure hose (2) and quick-connect. Refer to HOSE, POWER STEERING, PRESSURE, REMOVAL  .

  6. Remove supply hose (2) at power steering pump (1).

  7. Remove three bolts (1) mounting power steering pump (2) to engine.
  8. Remove power steering pump (2).
  9. If pulley needs to be removed, refer to PULLEY, POWER STEERING PUMP, REMOVAL .
