Arm, Upper Control: Removal
NOTE:
Review all Warnings and Cautions. Refer to WARNING .
- Raise and support vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove wheel and tire assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove brake caliper from knuckle and hang out of the way, then remove brake rotor. Refer to ROTOR, BRAKE, REMOVAL

1 - KNUCKLE 2 - WHEEL SPEED SENSOR 3 - MOUNTING BOLT - Remove bolt (3) fastening ABS wheel speed sensor head (2) to steering knuckle (1). Remove sensor head from knuckle.CAUTION:
Do not strike or apply heat to steering knuckle in an effort to separate ball joint studs from steering knuckle.
CAUTION:When releasing ball joint from knuckle using Puller (2), Special Tool C-4150A, use care not to pinch and damage ball joint grease seal.
1 - UPPER BALL JOINT COTTER PIN 2 - LOWER BALL JOINT COTTER PIN 3 - TIE ROD NUT 4 - LOWER BALL JOINT NUT 5 - KNUCKLE (WITH HUB AND BEARING) 6 - UPPER BALL JOINT NUT - Remove cotter pin (1) and castle nut (6) from upper ball joint stud.
- Install Puller, Special Tool (special tool #C-4150A, Press, Ball Joint), and release upper ball joint from knuckle. Ball bearing in bolt of Special Tool
(special tool #C-4150A, Press, Ball Joint) must be centered in end of lower ball joint stud.
1 - UPPER CONTROL ARM 2 - CAM BOLT 3 - CAM WASHER 4 - STABILIZER BAR LINK 5 - LOWER CONTROL ARM 6 - SHOCK ASSEMBLY - Remove nuts and bolts attaching upper control arm (1) to mounting brackets on frame rail. Slightly spread ends of mounting brackets to ease removal of control arm from brackets.
- Remove upper control arm (1).
