Differential Fluid Level Check

NOTE:
The rear differential oil change is not a scheduled maintenance service.
NOTE:
The Rear Driveline Module (RDM) oil must not be drained during normal level checks.
NOTE:
Be sure the vehicle is on a level surface, or is hoisted in a level manner, in order to obtain the correct fill level.
NOTE:
If this procedure is not carried out as described exactly, including waiting times, the oil level may vary by more than 3 mm (.118 in).
- With the car in SNOW mode, drive at 30 km/h (19 MPH) for 5 minutes.
- Drive back to the workshop, position the vehicle on the hoist, stop the engine and after one hour check the RDM oil level as described below.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the rear differential oil filler cap (1).
- Insert a suitable hex wrench (1) in the filler hole to submerge the short branch of the wrench in the oil holding the long branch perfectly horizontal.
- Very carefully remove the hex wrench (1) from the hole.
- With a digital caliper, check that the position shown in illustration is comprised between 13 - 15 mm (.51 -.59 in).
- If necessary, add the specified fluid. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
- Clean the differential fill plug and install a NEW gasket. Install the fill plug and tighten.
