Sensor, Knock: Removal: 4.0L

  1. Perform the fuel system pressure relief procedure. Refer to FUEL DELIVERY, GAS [EKG, EGS], STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING COOLING SYSTEM .
  4. Remove the upper intake manifold including EGR tube, PCV, purge and power brake booster vacuum hoses. Refer to MANIFOLD, INTAKE, REMOVAL .

  5. Remove fuel rail and lower intake manifold. Refer to LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD .

  6. Remove sensor mounting bolt. Note foam strip on bolt threads. This foam is used only to retain the bolt to sensor for plant assembly. It is not used as a sealant. Do not apply any adhesive, sealant or thread locking compound to this bolt.
  7. Remove knock sensor (3) from engine.
