Tank, Fuel: Installation: Installation

  1. If a new fuel tank is being installed, transfer the shield (1) to the fuel tank (2) from the removed tank.
  2. If a new fuel tank is being installed, install the fuel pump module (Front-Wheel Drive/FWD) or the main and auxiliary fuel pump modules (All-Wheel Drive/AWD) into the new fuel tank from the removed tank. Refer to MODULE, FUEL PUMP, INSTALLATION  or MODULE, FUEL PUMP, INSTALLATION .

    WARNING:

    Support the fuel tank with a transmission jack or equivalent. Use straps to secure the fuel tank to the jack. Failure to properly support and secure the fuel tank during removal may cause fuel to spill or the fuel tank to fall from the jack.

  3. Position the fuel tank onto a transmission jack.
  4. Raise the fuel tank close enough to the vehicle underbody to access and connect the fuel line (1) and (2) quick connect fittings. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE  .
  5. Connect the fuel pump module harness connector (3).

  6. Complete raising the fuel tank (1) into position against the vehicle underbody.
  7. Install fuel tank straps (3) to the underbody. Tighten the bolts to 48 N.m (35 ft. lbs.).

  8. Connect the fuel filler tube vent line (2) and the fuel tank recirculation line (3) quick connect fittings.
  9. Connect the fuel filler tube (1) to the fuel tank. Tighten the hose clamp to 3 N.m (27 in. lbs.).

  10. Position the fuel tank close out panel (2) to the right underbody, then install and securely tighten the screw (1) and two nuts (3).
  11. If equipped with All-Wheel Drive (AWD), reinstall the rear propeller shaft. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  12. Install the exhaust pipes to the vehicle. Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST, INSTALLATION .
  13. Fill the fuel tank.
  14. Connect the battery negative cable.
  15. Use a diagnostic scan tool to pressurize the fuel system.
  16. Check the fuel system carefully for leaks.
