ICU (Integrated Control Unit): Removal
NOTE:
Before proceeding, review Warnings and Cautions. (Refer to BRAKES - WARNING)
and (Refer to BRAKES - CAUTION)
- Using a brake pedal holder, depress the brake pedal past its first one inch of travel and hold it in this position. See Fig 1. This will isolate the master cylinder from the brake hydraulic system and will not allow the brake fluid to drain out of the master cylinder reservoir.
1 - CLUTCH PEDAL 2 - THROTTLE PEDAL 3 - BRAKE PEDAL HOLDING TOOL 4 - STEERING WHEEL 5 - DRIVER'S SEAT 6 - BRAKE PEDAL - Disconnect battery negative (-) terminal and isolate cable.
- Raise vehicle. (Refer to LUBRICATION & MAINTENANCE/HOISTING - STANDARD PROCEDURE)
- Remove left front tire and wheel assembly. (Refer to TIRES/WHEELS - REMOVAL)
- Remove access panel in forward portion of left front wheel well. See Figure.
- Remove belly pan front extension. (Refer to BODY/EXTERIOR/BELLY PAN - REMOVAL)
- Pull outward on connector lock and disconnect 24-way connector at CAB.
- Remove three chassis brake tubes going to brakes at ICU hydraulic control unit. See Fig 2.
1 - PRIMARY BRAKE TUBE FROM MASTER CYLINDER 2 - CHASSIS BRAKE TUBE TO LEFT FRONT BRAKE 3 - SECONDARY BRAKE TUBE FROM MASTER CYLINDER 4 - CHASSIS BRAKE TUBE TO REAR BRAKES 5 - ICU 6 - CHASSIS BRAKE TUBE TO RIGHT FRONT BRAKE - Remove primary and secondary brake tubes coming from master cylinder at ICU hydraulic control unit. See Fig 2.
- Remove three bolts attaching ICU to mounting bracket. See Fig 3.
1 - FRAME MOUNTED BRACKET 2 - ISOLATOR 3 - MOUNTING BOLT 4 - ICU - Remove ICU from vehicle.
- If CAB and HCU must be separated, (Refer to BRAKES/HYDRAULIC/MECHANICAL/ICU (INTEGRATED CONTROL UNIT) - DISASSEMBLY).
